Data sources

1. Verified opening hours

The planner uses, in this order: the official opening hours published by the public body that runs the museum or monument; failing that, OpenStreetMap; and failing both, it says "opening hours not verified". It is never hidden. Every stop shows its source, a link and the date of the data.

Portals publish opening hours as free text. We convert them to the opening_hours format with auditable rules and always keep the original text: when a conversion is not reliable, the original text is shown as is and the schedule counts as not verified.

Today 827 places have verified opening hours, from 4 official sources.

2. Map and places

• Map data, the places the planner suggests and their opening hours when there is no official source come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL license).
• Map tiles are served by MapTiler.
• The popularity used to rank places comes from Wikidata (CC0); descriptions and photos come from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons under the license each article or image states (usually CC BY-SA), and some place photos from Foursquare under its terms.
• The boundaries of the exploration map come from geoBoundaries (CC BY 4.0) and Natural Earth (public domain).
• Route calculation uses OSRM on OpenStreetMap data; place search uses Nominatim and Photon (also on OpenStreetMap); weather and elevation, Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0). Public transport times are our own estimate based on walking time (we do not use any operator timetables).

3. Licenses

• CC BY 4.0: free use, including commercial, crediting the publisher and stating whether the data was modified (opening hours are converted to another format).
• ODbL: the OpenStreetMap license; it requires the credit "© OpenStreetMap contributors".
• CC0: no restrictions (Wikidata).
